COPA TEJAS INVITES SUPPORTERS & FANS
TO VOTE ON NAMING THE ALL COPA TEJAS TEAM
SAN ANTONIO, Texas ¾ Copa Tejas announced today it is inviting supporters and fans to vote on selecting the first All Copa Tejas Team among current players on the four Texas USL Championship teams.
Copa Tejas is an annual supporters-driven trophy awarded at the end of the USL Championship regular season to the Texas team with the best head-to-head record among Austin Bold FC, Rio Grande Valley Toros, El Paso Locomotive FC and San Antonio FC. However, during the 2020 season, the trophy’s organizing committee announced the cup would not be awarded this season because the Covid-19 global pandemic forced the league into regional groups, separating El Paso into a different group.
Supporters and fans can cast their vote for players they believe are most deserving for The All Copa Team – or The Copa Tejas 11 - by clicking on the link:

Rosters were taken from the four teams’ websites with the positions officially listed. A standard 4-4-2 formation was selected to designate the number of spots for each position. In addition, supporters/fans will be able to select a Copa Tejas Coach Of The Year from among the teams’ current coaches and a Supporters’ Player Of The Year, which awards the player who most embodies “the Copa Tejas Spirit” of engagement with supporters, fans and their football Community.
Voting for The All Copa Tejas Team, Coach Of The Year and Supporters’ Player Of The Year begins Monday, Sept. 28 and ends Wednesday, Oct. 7.
Copa Tejas co-founders Steve Arters and Danielle Gawronski organized the launch of the trophy in early 2019 and handle administrative duties, while coordinating with its advisory board of state supporters and the various Texas USL Championship supporters groups. Austin Bold FC won the first Copa Tejas Trophy near the end of 2019 regular season.
“We’re excited to give supporters and fans the opportunity to select The All Copa Tejas Team because there’s so much talent among the Texas USL Championship teams,” Arters said. “Plus, the Supporters’ Player Of The Year highlights the player who really connects with the supporters community and we think it’ll grow in importance in the future.”
“2020 has been such a difficult challenge and we think this will give all the supporters and fans a reason to promote their team and acknowledge the best players on the other Copa teams,” Gawronski added. “As they say, everything’s bigger in Texas and we think that’ll apply to the first All Copa Tejas Team, so be sure to vote.”

In these unprecedented times, change has been constant. We waited to study the released @USLChampionship Group schedules before discussing with supporters across Texas the options of what Copa Tejas should do in 2020.
The Supporters' many voices were unanimous: We either ride together as 4 Texas teams in a fair round-robin format to crown a true champion .or we do not ride at all.
So Copa Tejas will sit out the 2020 abbreviated Group schedule and the trophy will not be awarded this year.
Hopefully, we're back with a normal @USLChampionship schedule next season and will crown a 2021 Champion in one of the 4 Texas cities.
We'll continue to support our 4 teams and celebrate the great spirit of Copa Tejas online with #copachaos. All supporters please remain safe and strong.
SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Supporters of San Antonio FC have formed Copa Tejas to be awarded at the end of the 2019 USL Championship regular season to the Texas team with the best head-to-head record among the four clubs, organizers announced.
The four teams – SAFC, Austin Bold FC, Rio Grande Valley Toros and El Paso Locomotive FC – will be competing for Copa Tejas during home-and-away matchups, starting March 23 when RGV visits El Paso for the first-ever game in the trophy’s series. The following Saturday, March 30, SAFC will travel to Austin for the first-ever meeting between those two clubs.
Copa Tejas’ format will be similar to the Cascadia Cup and the head-to-head competition between MLS teams Seattle, Portland and Vancouver. Points will be earned during the regular season – three for a victory, one for a draw and no points for a loss. The team that accumulates the most points during the regular USL season, excluding possible U.S. Open match ups and playoffs, will be awarded the trophy in October and will keep it and bragging rights for a year. If a tiebreaker is necessary, it will be determined from goal differential and other criteria.
SAFC’s Supporters groups, including Mission City Firm, the Crocketteers and 210 Alliance, will be coordinating with supporters of the other three Texas teams to make the first-year trophy run a memorable one. Copa Tejas organizers and SAFC supporters Steve Arters and Danielle Gawronski will coordinate between all the supporters groups and handle the trophy’s administration.
“The timing is perfect for Copa Tejas and it’s going to give matches between the Texas teams an added edge right away, not only on the field, but in the stands between all the supporters and fans,” said Copa Tejas organizer Steve Arters.
Organizer Danielle Gawronski added she couldn’t wait to see how the teams’ supporters are going to have “fun developing the rivalries.” “Now the so-called state champion receives a trophy to signify a great accomplishment and that team’s supporters can celebrate with bragging rights,” she said.
While Copa Tejas will encourage fierce competition on the and off the pitch, it also will encourage camaraderie between the various supporters groups across Texas. SAFC Supporters, known for their large, loud and entertaining tailgates, will invite visiting supporters to party with them prior to home games in San Antonio and be looking to join other supporters’ tailgates when traveling with SAFC.
